The Care Guide

Jewellery is made to be lived in, not left waiting for a special occasion. We design your pieces with both wearability and durability in mind, so you can wear them often, love them well, and keep them looking their stunning best with mindful care.

The Evolution of Your Piece

Your handmade jewellery may feature textures and finishes designed to soften and evolve with wear. This natural change is part of your piece’s story, and part of what makes it uniquely yours. Matte surfaces may take on a satin glow, polished finishes will collect a history of fine scratches, and blackened oxidised details will gradually wear away in areas of regular contact.

Note: Finishes on rings will naturally soften faster than on earrings or pendants. This is simply due to the friction, contact and pressure of daily wear.

GENERAL CARE & CLEANING

While our pieces are designed and crafted to last, all fine jewellery can be affected over time by knocks, pressure, and the elements.

  • Protect from the elements: Where possible, keep your pieces away from excess heat, moisture, oils, and harsh chemicals.

  • Mind the settings: Avoid catching prong settings on clothing, which can loosen the grip on your gemstones. We recommend regularly checking that your settings are secure and your clasps remain snug.

  • General cleaning: With the exception of pearl and opal pieces - gently wash your jewellery using warm water, a mild (lemon-free) soap, and a soft cloth. A soft, baby-sized toothbrush is perfect for gently clearing around stones and between intricate granules. Always dry thoroughly with a soft lint-free cloth.

GOLD & SILVER

Gold and silver are made to be worn and enjoyed. With a little regular care, they will continue to shine beautifully.

  • Gold: To preserve your gold, avoid exposure to perfume, cosmetics, bleach, chlorine, and harsh chemicals. This metal can lose its shine due to fingerprints and daily dirt build up. To restore its brilliance at home:

    1. Add lukewarm water with a few drops of mild soap to a bowl. Avoid boiling water or sudden temperature changes, extreme heat can damage jewellery with stones and pearls.

    2. Soak your piece for around 10 minutes.

    3. Gently clean with a soft toothbrush or cloth.

    4. Rinse well in clean water.

    5. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth. .

  • Sterling Silver: Silver naturally oxidises over time, especially when exposed to moisture, salty air, or household chemicals containing sulphur. Interestingly, regular wear actually helps keep silver from tarnishing! If tarnish does appear, gently polish it away with a microfibre cloth, a designated silver polishing cloth or by using the above method for gold.

  • Fine Silver: As 99.9% pure silver, fine silver is prized for its brilliant white glow and is naturally more resistant to tarnish than sterling silver. However, this high purity also means it is much softer and more malleable. Handle fine silver pieces with a gentle touch to avoid scratches, dents, or bending, and clean simply with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth.

A word of caution:Treated polishing cloths should be kept strictly away from pearls, opals, and other delicate gemstones.
